Frequently Asked Questions

Why has the City of Mississauga decided to develop this campaign?

The City of Mississauga has developed this public engagement campaign to inspire, inform and interact with residents and stakeholders about the future of our city. The goal of the campaign is to strategically gather the creative thoughts and unique ideas and incorporate them into a great, new Strategic Plan to take our City into the next 30 to 40 years.

In this process we will be asking residents and key stakeholders how they would like to see the City develop. It makes sense since our citizens are the ones who will be affected by our plan for the future.

When was the campaign launched and how long will this campaign run?

The campaign was launched in June 2007 and will conclude in the Spring of 2008 when a draft strategic plan will be presented to the public.

What other opportunities are planned to get the community involved in the process?

There are many ways for residents to get involved in “Our Future Mississauga”.

Throughout the campaign, we’re asking everyone to go online and participate in discussions, complete surveys, and keep in touch with updates about the campaign. This is where residents can not only give us their feedback, but also find out what great ideas others are contributing to the campaign.

We’ll have idea cards in the form of puzzle pieces available at community centres and libraries. We’re asking everyone to put their idea on a puzzle piece and return it to us at any City facility or Civic Centre.

We’re also reaching out to students of all ages and grades throughout the City. Packages will be sent to schools describing various activities that will get our youth involved in the process. Students and parents can contact their schools to let principals and teachers know that they want to participate in the campaign.

Later this year, we’ll be holding a “Big Ideas” Workshop to start working and processing the ideas and input that we receive.

In February, we’re asking residents to again participate in an exciting event – a 2-day “Visioning Symposium” where residents, community groups and City staff will work together to further develop the ideas into a deliverable and achievable plan. Residents will be able to go online to register for the symposium, or call our conversation hotline at 905-615-3200 ext. 2100.

Is there a cost to attend the Visioning Symposium?

There is no cost to attend the symposium, but we are issuing tickets in advance, so please email or call us to register.

Will we see the strategic plan once it is completed?

At the end of the campaign, residents will be able to actually see the results of the “Our Future Mississauga” campaign when a draft strategic plan will be presented for their review. The City will publicize the release of the plan, and it will be posted on the website and copies will be available to residents.
