Our Future Mississauga - Project Background

The “Our Future Mississauga: Be Part of the Conversation” is a project aimed at developing an updated Strategic Direction and Plan for the City of Mississauga as we position ourselves to be a great city in the 21st Century. The City of Mississauga has had a Strategic Plan in place since 1992. The most recent update was approved by Council in 1998 and has been the backbone on which policy and decisions have been made as the city continues to grow.

The 21st Century Conversation will be organized into five distinct phases.

Reconnaissance
Inspiration
Vision
Direction
Plan

Each phase will build upon and inform the next. Initially, the goal is to understand all of the initiatives and great thinking that is currently underway in the City of Mississauga. This will help inform the Inspirational phase, where as many ideas as possible are sought about what the future could be for Mississauga.

Ideas will gradually be funnelled through a process whereby the great ideas are allowed to rise to the top. Ideas are then vetted through a technical committee to determine if they are achievable and worth pursuing.

Next, the process will shift to focussing on how to turn the great ideas into reality. The inspirational ideas will funnel into vision development where ideas will be tested and form the direction for the future. Finally, the Plan will record all of the great ideas and thinking that occurs over the course of the 21st Century Conversation and outline a series of strategic actions in all of the engagement themes that will form the structure for the new City of Mississauga Strategic Plan.
