Mississauga Celebration Square in Full Swing The official opening of Mississauga Celebration Square may have been held outside in the pouring rain, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of politicians, staff and residents excited about the launch of the GTA’s newest entertainment venue. The official opening took the form of a Council Meeting from the permanent stage, with presentations showcasing the Square’s development, features and future plans. |

All Renovated City Pools Drawing Crowds The City’s two new indoor pools at Clarkson Community Centre and Malton Community Centre and the six renovated outdoor pools were officially opened in June and July. Residents celebrated the opening of Clarkson Community Pool and Malton Community Pool on Saturday, June 18, each with an official ceremony followed by a complimentary Panera lunch, free swims, displays, local entertainment and activities. Approximately 1,200 people participated in the festivities. |

All ISF Library Projects Complete The City’s four library redevelopment projects are now open for regular business following community celebrations. The three south libraries officially opened on Saturday, June 11, each with an official ceremony including representation from the three levels of government funding the renovations. |

Burnhamthorpe Library Official Reopening – You’re Invited! The City’s largest library ISF project, and an architectural beauty, is set to officially reopen on Saturday August 6. The celebrations at Burnhamthorpe Library begin with an official ceremony at 11 a.m. Hosted by Ward 3 Councillor Chris Fonseca, the ceremony will feature Mayor McCallion, members from levels of government and the Chair of the Mississauga Public Library Board. The newly named Maja Prentice Theatre will also be dedicated to retired Ward 3 councillor, Maja Prentice. |

Redeveloped Facilities Set to Open in 2011 The federal government recently announced an extension to the March 31, 2011 completion deadline for ISF and RInC projects. A new deadline of October 31, 2011 allows for an additional construction season, and is applicable to projects where work has begun and eligible costs have been incurred before the original March deadline. |

Minister of Infrastructure Visits Clarkson Pool Site In December, the City welcomed Ontario Minister of Infrastructure Bob Chiarelli, as he toured Clarkson Community Centre to check out construction of the new pool addition -- an $11.8 million ISF project. Charles Sousa, MPP Mississauga South, Councillor Pat Mullin and City staff joined him to point out the facility’s many features including a fully accessible 25-metre, five-lane lap pool, warm-water leisure /therapy pool with spray features and a relaxing hydrotherapy bench. |

City Completes Three Bundles of ISF Projects As of October 2010, the City has completed all of its road, noise wall and ISF projects. This includes rehabilitation of 14 major and local roads budgeted at $26.2 million; replacement of 20 noise walls at $4 million; and fifteen new sidewalks at $2.4 million. |

BULLETIN: South Branch Libraries Update With a number of infrastructure projects on the go in the City of Mississauga, we’ve all been anxiously awaiting the completion of renovated facilities in our neighbourhoods. Although the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund’s (ISF) provincial and federal government funding partners had imposed a project completion deadline of March 31, 2011, we had expected the south Mississauga branch library projects to be completed by the end of this year. |

Port Credit Branch Library Half-Way There Port Credit residents are anticipating the completion of a number of infrastructure projects in their community. The Port Credit Branch Library is a key ISF project in their neighbourhood, budgeted at $3.1 million. The project is currently 55 per cent complete, with drilling, plumbing and electrical rough-ins and HVAC rough-in nearing completion. Site soil has also been tested with no contamination found. |
